NEW: The Paperjam Award

Paperjam has been working with the University of Ulster for a few years, setting branding projects for second year Visual Communications students. We wanted to do more. Something more interesting and useful - something that could make a real difference.

The Paperjam Award will be given to a single Visual Communication student at the exhibition stage of each graduating year to recognise a particularly interesting and creative piece of design. More than a award to stick on their shelf or a logo to stick on their cv, we will be giving the winning student free working space in our office. They will have a desk, an internet connection, heat, light and (most importantly) coffee for the entire summer after graduation.

They will not be expected to complete any of Paperjam's client work, it is an open creative space for a talented individual to come and use while they plan the next stage of their career. Paperjam's team will support them with advice and industry contacts as much as we can.

As the media machine clicks over with a daily feed of frenzied panic about how bad the economy might become and anger over every penny spent or not spent on local services, we would be forgiven for feeling a little bit unsure as to the security of our future. Think how that must feel for someone mere months from graduating from a university degree in design, a course begun 4 years ago when the concept of a recession was held in the same regard as an impending apocalyptic asteroid.

We look forward to previewing some brilliant work.
